Roaming About In Other News

Tonight I decided to tune into the latest presidential debate. Pretty interesting stuff. I definitely lean heavy to the far right in my own political perspectives. As a subgenius, such debates can only really be taken as entertaining satire, performed in the most brilliant of manners. Outside of that context, though, it was a fascinating performance by all.

I’m pretty against the federal government, or much of any government, interveining much into any part of our lives, and I think the candidates reflected a lot of such sentiments. Of all those in the debate, I’d lean toward voting for Ron Paul the most. If I could choose a moderate, I strangely liked John Huntsman.

On an Christian note, as I perambulate about in Lesser Feasts and Fasts, today’s saint is St. Cyprian, who:

In his treatise, On the Lord’s Prayer, he wrote: “We say, ‘Hallowed be thy Name,’ not that we want God to be made holy by our prayers, but because we seek from the Lord that his Name may be made holy in us, …so that we who have been made holy in Baptism may persevere in what we have begun to be.” (from Lesser Feasts and Fasts, 2003, p.364.)

Not so fond of today’s prayer in the memory of St. Cyprian, here’s another:

Lord God Almighty, you have made all the people of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forebearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (from The Book of Common Prayer, p.258.)

How can any of us respond to such a prayer? Justice, but with forebearance toward the side of freedom of the people themselves, to love and serve God, as they see fit. Certainly this is a foundation stone of our republic.

From Ninin Ga Shinobuden, v.1, p.56.

In other news, I’ve been catching up on reading old trade paperbacks of Power Girl. Really fun and awesome stuff for sure. With DC Comics dropping the Power Girl title, she will be appearing in the Mr. Terrific title coming out this week! I’m actually so super excited about that. I can hardly wait for Friday to come so I can go pick up my copy! Yay! And from following the blog of the writer of Mr. Terrific, it sounds like it’s gonna be (shall I say) a simply terrific comic book. :)

Oh my, and though I’m for a whole lot less federal and state governments, praise our local Pomona government, we had some tagging on the sidewalk out in front of my house, I called the 24 hour graffiti hotline and they came out the very next day and cleaned it up. I walked out and slathered my highest praise to individual out there taking care of it. Praise Pomona!!!!
